Keller Williams Just Built a Growth & Attraction Team. Here Is the Playbook They'll Run

2026-09-21 8 min read By Coach Randy Byrd

Let me be direct with you. The world's largest real estate franchise by agent count just hired a team whose job titles literally include the words "Growth & Attraction," opened its tech platform so any tool an agent wants can plug straight in, and told the industry that team recruitment is its priority for the year. This is not gossip. This is the most credentialed real estate recruiting playbook published in 2026, and it came out of a company with more than 165,000 agents and roughly 1,000 offices. If you lead a team, your job is to read what the biggest player in the game just did and copy the parts that scale to your market. I ran a Keller Williams office of 100 agents, so I know this company from the inside. The moves they made over the last year are the same moves I teach in every team leader coaching engagement I run, and they work at 5 agents, 50, or 1,200.

The story everyone read and nobody decoded

On February 23, 2026, Keller Williams opened its Command platform to third-party developers, seven years after it launched Command. The announcement reads like a corporate press release, so it is easy to skim past. Do not skim it. The CEO, Chris Czarnecki, announced the move at the company's Family Reunion in Atlanta, and the stated goal was letting agents unify their trusted tools into a single, intelligent ecosystem, with new lead-generation integrations from Facebook, Instagram, Spacio, and Fello routing leads directly into the CRM. On its face it is a tech story. Underneath it is a recruiting play. When the biggest franchise in the world starts handing agents more choice about the tools they work in every day, it is admitting what I have taught for 13 years: choice is what keeps agents, and choice is what attracts new ones.

Then, on July 23, 2026, Keller Williams named five leaders to growth roles. Read the job titles the way a coach would. A head of divisions overseeing 30 U.S. and Canadian regions. A head of commercial operations and strategy. Two co-heads of something called U.S. Growth & Attraction, a married duo with 20 combined years who have coached and trained more than 2,200 agents. And a head of digital and social for growth and attraction. The mandate holding the whole structure together, as the trade press reported it, is simple: accelerate agent-count growth and franchise productivity.

Now add the third piece of the plan, which most of the industry filed away back in December 2025. Keller Williams told HousingWire that team recruitment, retention, and education would be its priorities for 2026, with updated training, mastermind groups, and leadership support aimed squarely at agent teams. The footprint behind all of it is real: more than 3,700 KW teams made the RealTrends rankings.

Now look at the pattern in those three announcements. December 2025. February 2026. July 2026. This is not a company reacting to a slow week. This is a sequenced, deliberate growth plan, run on a calendar, with named owners, public announcements, and a number the whole industry can watch. That pattern is the story.

What the biggest franchise just admitted

Here is the coaching truth hiding in plain sight. A company with 165,000 agents does not hire a Growth & Attraction department because it is desperate for bodies. It does it because growth is a function, and a function needs an owner with a title, a budget, and a leader checking the number. The single biggest mistake I see in team leaders is treating real estate recruiting as something you do when you have time, between transactions, when the mood strikes. Keller Williams just spent a year proving the opposite. How to attract real estate agents to your team is a discipline, run on purpose, every single week.

And notice the word they chose: attraction, not recruiting. That word choice is the whole philosophy. Recruiting sounds like the act of convincing people to join you. Attraction is what happens when a system makes the right agents come looking for you. The same shift applies to a team of any size. When your recruiting is a hope instead of a system, you chase. When it is a system, you attract. That is the entire difference between a leader who is always selling and a leader agents ask to join.

The three moves to copy this quarter

You are not hiring five executives this quarter. You do not need to. You need to copy the three plays underneath the appointments.

1. Give the number an owner. The mandate to accelerate agent-count growth means nothing until one human being wakes up owning it. On your team, who is accountable for how many conversations with prospective agents happened this week? If the answer is everyone, the answer is nobody, and your growth plan is a wish. Even at 1,200+ agents across 30 states and 5 countries, my organization only grows because someone runs the intake number every week. Write the owner's name down. Give them one number. Check it on a calendar.

2. Open your architecture. Command spent years as a closed system, and Keller Williams decided openness is the better retention and recruiting story. Now ask yourself the uncomfortable version of that question. Do you hold your agents' database hostage to keep them? Do agents stay because of your systems, or because of your leadership? The 2026 agent chooses a team the way they choose a CRM: by whether it fits the way they actually work. When you stop demanding lock-in and start building an offer so strong that agents stay by choice, you learn how to attract real estate agents to your team without a single cold call. Choice is the retention plan of the decade, and retention is recruiting.

3. #14532D]">Lead through teams. Keller Williams did not build 3,700 ranked teams one nervous conversation at a time. It built them by coaching leaders and giving teams structure, masterminds, and a clear path to grow. That is the same truth the biggest brokerage numbers are showing all year, from eXp reporting that [41% of its new agents arrived as teams to KW's explicit team push. When you want to grow your real estate team, you do not recruit the individual, you recruit the leader, because the leader brings the whole operation. One team leader moving to you is worth a year of one-at-a-time signings, and it is exactly how the biggest franchise in the world is playing it.

Why this is your best recruiting door yet

Now connect the giant's move to your market. Every agent who reads that their franchise is running platform partnerships, executive rotations, and open-integration strategies asks the same quiet question: is my brokerage getting better for me, or is it just getting better for its growth plan? That question is a door, and it opens onto the exact conversation you should be having with the producing agents in your market.

And here is the part that makes this quarter special. The agents watching Keller Williams, Compass, Real, and eXp run these plays are the same agents who wonder whether their own leader has any plan at all. When you show up with a system, a calendar, and a number, you become the unmissable contrast. That is real estate recruiting the way the Attract System teaches it. You do not out-hustle the giants. You out-structure them in your own market, and you let the right agents find you.

The straight Coach take

Here is the direct version. The largest franchise in real estate just spent a year building exactly what I tell every team leader to build: a named growth owner, an open offer instead of a locked-down one, and a team-led recruiting model. You can read that as corporate news, or you can read it as the playbook. If you want to attract agents to your brokerage this quarter, stop waiting to be in the mood. Run the three moves above on a calendar. The giants are not winning because they are big. They are winning because they treat growth like a job. So should you.
